One Giant Leap for (Hu)Mankind

A victory for equality.  I hate using words like "equality", really, because we never really will be equal--someone will always have an advantage over someone else or be treated better for some strange reason.  Even when we're all legally equal, people are still going to give preference to some people over others.  Evolutionarily, we are wired to look at people in terms of what they can do for us (will this person help me get food?  will this person prevent me from achieving my highest reproductive success? and so on) and so judgement--putting people into categories--making assumptions based on arbitrary characteristics--will go on, but it is good to see that the general trend is towards attempted equality.
The equality that we strive towards in human society is ultimately the way God sees us.  Jesus died for all people, not just white-straight-men or whatever your preference.  So rather than focusing on the fact that things like gay marriage might appear to go against the grain of Christian belief, we really should focus on the fact that God loves all of creation and so should we.  And love leaves no room for inequality.
