They were brought to the shelter together and nursed together, though the people at the shelter think they are not from the same litter. The main reason the shelter staff believed they weren't littermates despite being raised together is that they are about 8 weeks and 12 weeks old, respectively. The larger and slightly older one may have joined up with the younger one's litter (they came to the shelter with 5 kitties total and were the only 2 left). Their shelter names were Kendrick (the male) and Kendall (the female)...their new names are James K. Polk (Polkie for short) and either Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Ulysses S. Grant, or some other strange newfangled name (we're not quite sure yet). The as yet semi-unnamed cat (the female and slightly older one) has many extra toes...she has 7 on each front foot and 5 (as opposed to the usual 4) on each back foot. They are crazy, as kittens can be. They don't often hold still long enough for good pictures. They like to wrestle with us and with each other and are particularly fond of pouncing on things that move (aka arms, legs and torsos) under bedcovers. They bite but it doesn't hurt yet...yet. And they are awesome new friends.
Two sides of a coin. On one side, there is the intellectual-the thoughts and ideas that got us where we are now and continue pushing us to do more. On the other, there is the practical-the way we live out our beliefs, from the small-scale to the large, even in the face of doubt.

Kittens!!
Here's a bit of info about our new kitties and some pictures of them:
